Kentucky Youth Advocates’ Opioid Data Dashboard has new county-level data; offers June 4 webinar on how to leverage data

Kentucky Health News
Kentucky Youth Advocates‘ new Opioid Data Dashboard now has county-level data, and KYA is offering a webinar to help local leaders learn how to put this data into action.
The webinar, titled “Using Data to Leverage the Opioid Settlement Funds,” will be held Wednesday, June 4, from 11 a.m. EST to noon. Click here to register.
“This webinar is designed to familiarize community leaders, local organizations and stakeholders with this tool for understanding local impact from the opioid epidemic and informing decisions about how to maximize county opioid settlement funds for the greatest impact for Kentucky communities,” according to the registration website.
As part of the webinar, Lauren Carr with the Kentucky Association of Counties will talk about how counties are using their opioid settlement funds and will offer tips for engaging county officials.
The opioid settlement funds are part of the approximately $900 million in settlements with opioid manufacturers and distributors. The money is provided in installments, with half of the money going to the state and the other half going to local governments. State and local governments have been charged with using the funds to try to heal communities affected by the opioid epidemic.
The new county-level data includes:
- Drug-related overdose emergency room visits among children;
- Medicaid claims for key substance use treatment options;
- Early use of tobacco and related products by area development district; and
- Information on what core strategies of the opioid settlement counties are investing in.
Information about how counties are investing local monies for opioid use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery has been provided through a partnership with the Kentucky Association of Counties, according to the news release.
