No abortions reported in Kentucky in 2026’s second quarter

The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services reported no abortions took place in Kentucky between April and June, Tessa Redmond reports for Kentucky Today.

In response to Redmon’s Aug. 20 open record request, she reports that a message from the Cabinet said: “After a diligent search, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services determined that it possesses no records responsive to your request. The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services cannot furnish records that do not exist.”

Redmond reports that under Kentucky law, abortions must be reported to the Office of Vital Statistics within three days of the end of the month in which the abortion occurred. Abortions are permitted in Kentucky to protect the life and health of the mother, which is determined by her physician. Further, she writes that abortion data provided by the Cabinet does not track or report self-managed abortions that happen in the commonwealth.
