Nominations are sought by Sept. 7 for award recognizing lifetime contributions to rural health in Kentucky

Since 2003, the Kentucky Rural Health Association has awarded an individual with an award for their lifetime contributions to rural health in Kentucky. The award is named for its first recipient, Dr. Dan Martin of the Trover Foundation in Madisonville.

Last year’s recipient was Loretta Maldaner, who had served in rural health for over 25 years before retiring in 2016 from her  position as director of the Purchase Area Health Education Center.

The Dan Martin Award is given to an individual who has provided many years of service to rural health, whether that be in the area of patient care, health professions education, health administration, health promotion or public advocacy.

KRHA is seeking nominations for this year’s award. To nominate someone, download the nomination form here and e-mail it directly to esnodgrass@lhhs.org or mail it to the attention of Elizabeth Snodgrass at Livingston Hospital, 131 Hospital Dr., Salem, KY 42078. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Sept. 7.

The award committee ranks the candidates using established criteria, makes a recommendation to the KRHA Executive Committee, which then select the 2018 honoree, if someone is deemed appropriate.

The award will be presented at the KRHA Annual Conference Nov. 15-16 in Bowling Green. Any KRHA member who would like to serve on the Dan Martin Award Committee should e-mail
esnodgrass@lhhs.org.

“There are many dedicated, compassionate people at work in rural health in Kentucky and we look forward to being able to give them some well-deserved recognition,” Snodgrass says. “Now is your chance to help us thank someone that you think deserves recognition. We need and appreciate your input.”
