Free Health for a Change webinar examines how AMA tracks social determinants of health, scheduled March 12

Update, March 3, 2025: This story has been updated to reflect a change of speaker at the webinar.

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky‘s next “Health for a Change” webinar is titled “Beyond the Exam Room – How the AMA is Tackling Social Determinants of Health.” It will be held Wednesday, March 12, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET

Social determinants of health describe the social, environmental and economic conditions that influence a person’s health, such as income, education, housing, employment and access to health care.

The free event will highlight how the American Medical Association seeks to address health determinants through strategic investments, partnerships and advocacy, reverse the troubling rise in maternal mortality in the U.S., and share important lessons learned and what they mean for people and communities in the commonwealth. “The AMA has made influencing these social determinants of health a cornerstone of its commitment to advancing health equity and improving health outcomes for children and families from historically marginalized communities,” according to a foundation news release.

The webinar’s scheduled speakers are:

  • Dr. Alexander Ding, AMA board member

  • Jennifer Brown, director of AMA’s health equity, advocacy group

  • AMA President Dr. Bruce Scott, an ear, nose and throat surgeon in private practice in Louisville
