Saint Joseph Hospital warns of phone scam

Saint Joseph Hospital is alerting the community about a phone scam involving calls that appear to originate from the hospital’s phone numbers.
These calls are not from the hospital and are part of a widespread scam known as “caller ID spoofing,” where bad actors manipulate caller ID to display a legitimate organization’s phone number, disguising their true identity.
According to the alert, these calls often reference changes to Medicare or Medicaid in connection with the passage of the Trump administration’s “One Big Beautiful Bill.” The calls are asking victims for personal or financial information.
“Saint Joseph Hospital will NEVER call to solicit or request personal or financial information related to Medicare or Medicaid enrollment, changes, or any legislation,” the hospital said in a news release. “Our legitimate communications regarding your care will always be handled with the highest level of privacy and will never involve unsolicited requests for sensitive data over the phone in this manner.”
If you receive such a call, the hospital offers this advice:
- Hang up immediately. Do not engage with the caller or provide any information.
- Report the incident. You can report these fraudulent calls to:
- The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at reportfraud.ftc.gov
- Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE
Such calls should also be reported to the Kentucky Attorney General’s office, with an online scam report or by calling 888-432-9257
